How Our Plots Feed Barnet
While the allotments may seem like a world of their own, our work here extends far beyond the garden fence. We are a community on a mission: to harness the power of local growing to combat food insecurity in Barnet.
The truth is, even in a community like ours, many families struggle to afford fresh, nutritious food. With over a million elderly people over 65 reported as malnourished in the UK, and children facing a nutrition gap during the school holidays, our commitment has never been more vital.
Our Two-Fold Mission in Action
We are proud to support the Chipping Barnet Food Bank in two powerful ways:
- 1. The Open Day Fundraiser: Our upcoming Open Day on Sunday, 7th September, is a cornerstone of our efforts. Every single pound raised from our stalls, activities, and entry fees goes directly to the Food Bank. This financial support allows them to purchase essential items to complement the fresh produce we provide.
- 2. Year-Round Fresh Produce: Our plot holders' generosity extends far beyond the Open Day. We proudly collect and deliver fresh, healthy produce to the Food Bank up to 4 times a week. This ensures a continuous supply of vital nutrition that is often missing from typical food parcels.
